Just watched an amazing documentary about the North face of the Eiger in the Swiss Alps and all the mountaineering pioneers that tried to climb it.
It’s a monster - so many people died on it (and probably still do), and it’s surrounded in folk-lore about how difficult it is. Was totally amazed by these guys when they finally get up.
And then at the end, some guy in 2008 ascends the North face in 2hrs 47mins, unaided by ropes, pretty much running up it. Insane.
But now I really want to go to the Alps and do some hiking (not quite at the mountaineering stage yet…), it looks so stunnin there.
